Delta Global unveils the ecological FutureBox

The first in a series of new innovations under the title DeltaGlobalOriginals, the launch of FutureBox comes as sustainability is at the forefront of consumers’ concerns.

The Leicester-based company, whose clients include Net-a-Porter, MATCHESFASHION and Tom Ford, said they designed the FutureBox to ensure the highest sustainability standards and that the packaging does not use tape, has flat packing functionality and easy assembly functionality.

Delta Global said this facilitates full recycling and is cost effective at the production stage. The materials used are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) accredited. Importantly, the box does not require any magnets for a secure closure, an addition that prevents even the most “durable” packaging from being fully recyclable.

Robert Lockyer, CEO of Delta Global, said: “COP26 will see world leaders leveraging post-pandemic reconstruction as a way to accelerate the development of environmentally friendly policies. Sustainability efforts are less likely to be built on goodwill, but will be guided by laws and policies that force luxury brands to meet environmental standards.

The company said each box can be tailored to both the brand’s aesthetic and its sustainability goals. Aluminum-based and water-based finishes can be incorporated into the packaging design and its versatility makes it optimized for the modern luxury brand, with numerous heritage labels increasing sustainability efforts to align on consumer, investor and government policy requirements.

The luxury fashion sector is under scrutiny for the excessive packaging and textile waste it produces. Up to 88% of items newly listed on e-commerce websites contain plastics, while 85% of all textiles in the United States go to landfill.

Gucci and Burberry are notable examples of this dynamic of sustainable development. Both brands have eliminated plastic lamination from boxes, introducing ethically sourced packaging materials that are easily reused.

And where the big fashion houses lead, other luxury brands are forced to follow. Delta said the FutureBox makes this transition both cost effective and convenient. It can be seen as a high-end, scalable model that brands can customize to suit their own needs and design aesthetic.
