Giorgio Armani, Zegna among luxury fashion brands giving fashion makeovers to sports teams

A series of photos featuring Real Madrid’s star footballers has revealed the team have tapped the Italian menswear brand for a stylish makeover.

The team will wear Zegna’s designs as part of their travel wardrobe for the 2022/2023 season. The official team kit includes pieces exclusively designed for the players. The collection, available in Zegna boutiques, nods to the growing sportswear trend and the blending of form and function in fashion.

Players wear Zegna’s chore jackets, matching joggers and sneakers in black with subtle orange and white detailing. The overall aesthetic is relaxed, comfortable and versatile luxury for travel.

Zenga is one of many fashion brands to develop collections in collaboration with sports teams. It’s a way for luxury names to bolster their sportswear and leisurewear segments and align with the often lavish lifestyles of top athletes.

Giorgio Armani is a longtime collaborator of the Italian national football teams. In 2019, the brand announced a four-year partnership with the team and provided several custom looks.

In 2022, the Italian women’s football team revealed that they, too, were kitted out by the legendary designer. The news was accompanied by a team photo of the footballers dressed in gray Emporio Armani suits and blue shirts.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games often turns into a catwalk of sorts and an occasion where teams display their national pride by collaborating with designers from their country. And it’s not always the sportswear brands that are in the spotlight at the event. The Canadian team has been outfitted by various brands, from the 350-year-old Hudson’s Bay Company department store, to Vancouver-based sportswear brand Lululemon, to high fashion house DSquared2. .
