Is this the best budget LIDAR robot vacuum of 2021?

To solve their cleaning problem, many smart homeowners are turning to robotic vacuums. You can program these cleaners to vacuum, sweep and mop as you go about your day. Most are controllable via a smartphone, and you can even activate some models using Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

3-in-1 cleaning

First, the 3-in-1 cleaning function. The V3 Max can sweep, vacuum and wipe … all at the same time.

The combination of these processes means that instead of dragging around the mop bucket, broom, and upright vacuum, you can just let the V3 Max do the work for you. It means more time to do the things you love instead of cleaning.

The third key feature here is the improved user experience. Viomi has incorporated several additional features into the V3 Max designed to make it easier to use.

It’s quieter than ever, and in silent mode it doesn’t go above 57dB. This is about the same noise level as a light thunderstorm. If you have young children who nap during the day, you will appreciate this feature.

The V3 Max can also boost suction up to 2,700 Pascal, which means dirt and debris won’t hide, even in thick carpets.

Once vacuuming is complete, the one-button trash can will allow you to empty the vacuum without getting your hands dirty. It’s fun to stand on top of the trash can, push the button, and watch all that dirt effortlessly fall into its place.

This device’s 5,200mAh battery can clean up to 3,000 square feet on a single charge, and if the device is low, it will automatically connect and resume cleaning where it left off. The V3 Max can also automatically detect carpets, and it will automatically increase suction to 2700 Pascal when it does.

Finally, the 2cm obstacle climbing capability allows this device to climb obstacles up to 2cm in height, or 0.78 inches. This means that thresholds and thick carpets are no problem for this robotic vacuum cleaner.

The Mi Home app

As stated before, the Mi Home app is the primary way to control the V3 Max. With the app, you can set cleaning schedules (called appointments), choose specific areas to clean, establish no-go areas or virtual walls, and monitor your consumables.

You can also use the app to change suction levels from muffler to maximum, change modes on the fly, and increase or decrease the volume of water used for cleaning. In addition, battery life, cleaned area and run time are available at a glance.

The Mi Home app is easy to use and it didn’t take a long time to set up the vacuum cleaner. For me, however, I found it even easier to ask Alexa to start the vacuum.

So what’s good about the V3 Max?

It’s easy to empty and does a great job of picking up pet hair. My house is also home to four pets, which means there is always hair on our floors. I can configure the V3 Max to run once or twice a day, and that will keep that hair and dust bunnies to a minimum.

Likewise, I also like the auto-boost feature on the mats. We have a few area rugs in our house, and it’s nice to know that the V3 Max will automatically detect these rugs and clean them and hardwood floors.

Finally, it’s fantastic to use Alexa and Google home to control the vacuum cleaner. With this function and the app I can start the vacuum cleaner from anywhere. So if I go shopping and find out that my friends are arriving unexpectedly, I can make sure the house is clean before they arrive.

What’s not to like?

For me the only problem I had was obstacle detection. We have a large bowl of water that we keep on the ground for my pets, and I’ve found that the V3 Max has a tendency to knock in that bowl and spill water on the ground. To avoid this problem, I set up a no-go zone around the water dish.

I have also found that the vacuum cleaner does not always detect large objects, like shoes, for example. I dropped one of my Reeboks in front of the V3 Max a few times to see if that would avoid the shoe. Unfortunately, that shook him up a bit.

While this issue may seem concerning to some, almost every robotic vacuum cleaner I’ve tried has had slight obstacle detection issues. It is not so much a fault of unity as of technology. At this point, even the smartest vacuum sensors are just not advanced enough to dodge all the obstacles.

This means that just like with routine vacuuming, you need to pick up larger items from the floor before using the V3 Max.

Is the Viomi V3 Max for you?

For most households without a robot vacuum, the V3 Max will be ideal for daily use and maintenance. It’s relatively inexpensive at $ 499, and it’s packed with many features of a quality robot vacuum. If you are looking for a unit under $ 500, you should definitely consider this one.

It’s been a great experience using it, and despite its minor flaws, it’s a solid unit overall. While it might not be perfect, it’s a phenomenal vacuum for the price.
