Sheepskin sandals are a spring 2022 trend to watch

Balenciaga Crocs with a high heel, kidney-shaped clogs and platform flip-flops are just a few highly controversial “ugly” shoes that are deemed super cool by some and too ugly to work by others.

Balenciaga Crocs with a high heel, kidney-shaped clogs and platform flip-flops are just some of the controversial “ugly” shoes that are deemed super cool by some and too ugly to work by others. Sherpa sandals are the latest iteration of a dodgy shoe that some trend setters have already embraced as a late winter/early spring staple. It mixes the comfort of faux fur and the open-toe design, creating the feel of socks and sandals on steroids.

Sherpa is a synthetic (faux) sheepskin fabric that is soft and warm but not waterproof (which is important to keep in mind). Over the past couple of years, sherpa jackets have been popping up everywhere (like long coats, half-zip sweaters, and cropped jackets), making dressing down fluffy and easy. That same kind of teddy bear-chic has now moved to Southern Feet for Spring 2022.

There are many ways to wear it in times of transition: with socks, sweatpants, jeans, a dress or leggings. Easy to slip on after a workout or a long morning walk, these shoes can be as simple or fashion-forward as the wearer decides.

Why we endorse it: Price level, brand trust, easy to style design.

Where it could use improvements: No half sizes.

THE UGG-LY SLINGBACK

The Fluff Yeah UGG slide started gaining traction last summer and is poised for an influencer-driven social media takeover this year. This slingback style comes in multiple colors, has a monogrammed elastic strap, and a super puffy style (just like Ugg boots).

Who is it ideal for: Anyone who wants a youthful look at this trend.

Why we endorse it: Comfort, trust in the brand.

Where it could use improvements: Like all shearling sandals, it is not recommended to wear them outside.

Height/weight/dimensions: Women’s size; Amazon prices vary by size/color.

THE ULTRA-LUXURY OPTION

Fendi sandals

Want to really rock out on this look? These Fendi sandals have the label’s monogram along the back and the same strap layout as Tevas. These are nearly sold out online and were once worn by Chrissy Teigen in her effort to ditch high heels. Available at Net-a-porter.

Who is it ideal for: Anyone who wants a designer and look-at-me option.

Why we endorse it: Unique design features, duty calculated at checkout.

Where it could use improvements: Luxury price, limited sizes.

Height/weight/dimensions: Italian size (so be sure to use a conversation chart to understand the conversion).

SHEARLING SANDALS FOR CHILDREN

Socks can be a sticking point with kids, but these fun sandals might eliminate the need for them (at least for a few months). With a slip-on style, kids can try to manage their own “shoes on/off” routine at the door. May be. Available at the Gap.

Who is it ideal for: Anyone who wants a mini version of this comfortable shoe.

Why we endorse it: Trust in the brand, price, on sale.

Where it could use improvements: This white sherpa will go through a lot.
