This is the second year in a row that the New Years’ Dive at Sunnyside Beach has been canceled due to the spread of COVID cases.

Organizers Keith, Ian and Mike took to their website to express their disappointment.

“Well, we thought the Polar Bear Dip could take place this year – things looked so promising and our fundraiser was off to a good start. Unfortunately Omicron and the resulting restrictions on gatherings had other plans for us, ”the guys wrote.

“While this is disappointing, it is not up to us, and so in the spirit of Dip, we hope you will continue to fundraise for Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Center and do your own dip as you wish on January 1st.”

A personal dip could be in a kiddie pool in the backyard, a tub full of ice, or in the cottage lake.

We apologize, but this video failed to load.

People are encouraged to post their dive on social media.

“This is a particularly difficult time for the Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Center which has worked on the front lines during the pandemic to provide children with the mental health and other supports they need during child abuse investigations.” , wrote the organizers.

“For the children, youth and families who rely on Boost CYAC, they need our help more than ever. Your ongoing fundraiser or donation of any amount to Boost CYAC right now will make a big difference to the children of our city.
